Village residents and friends have an opportunity to explore the fascinating world of printmaking as artists from this month’s exhibit in Friendship Gallery offer three different weekend workshops for adults at the Village Center.
On Sunday, April 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with Mixed Media Collage and Assemblage, Sarah Barzmehi guides participants through two-dimensional collage, focusing on composition, balance and key designs. Then participants will transition into three-dimensional design, working with lines, planes, and texture to create dynamic spatial compositions. The cost is $100, plus $25 payable to the instructor for materials.
On Sunday, April 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sarah Barzmehi returns with Monoprint to Painting in which students use acrylic paint on glass plates to create expressive prints in color and black and white. The cost is $100, plus $15 payable to the instructor for materials. is limited.
On Monday, April 20, from 12 to 2 p.m., Kristine DeNinno presents Easy Carve Linocut for Beginners. In this class, students create their own hand-pulled prints with guidance from a local, award-winning Washington, D.C, native artist in this beginner-friendly linocut workshop. Linocut is a relief printmaking process in which designs are carved into a soft carve block, rolled with ink, and pressed onto paper to reveal bold, graphic results. By the end of the session, students will leave with their own carved block and a small edition of original prints—ready to frame or give as cards. The cost is $30, plus $10 payable to the instructor.
Registration is required for each of these workshops. Click on “Sign Up for Programs” at the top of the page.
