From banquet hall to stage—How music became the main course

Join Duo Soliste’s violinist Ji Yun Lee and pianist Minna Han for a delightful afternoon exploring the world of classical music before the modern concert hall on Monday, July 27, at 2:30 p.m., at the Village Center.

Long before audiences sat in silence, music was enjoyed in elegant salons, private homes, gardens and even aboard royal boats. This engaging lecture/concert brings to life a time when the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Handel and others was enjoyed alongside tea, coffee and lively conversation.

Through captivating stories, historical insights, and beautiful live performances, discover how classical music once served as the soundtrack to social gatherings. Whether you are a lifelong music lover or new to classical music, this unique experience promises an unforgettable afternoon of music, history and culture.

Violinist Lee has served as concertmaster of the Korean Philharmonic Orchestra and the Catholic Symphony Orchestra in Korea, while teaching as music faculty at the Catholic University. Pianist Han is currently a faculty member at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she continues to combine artistry and pedagogy in her work.
