Artist Reception: With energy and empathy, Fleming’s work offers an escape

Friendship Gallery features the works of Patsy Fleming in March. The retrospective exhibition showcases her amazing art and represents this very talented artist, as she celebrates her 90th birthday this month. In the words of an art critic, “Patsy Fleming is both “I Am So Into U” by Patsy Fleming a figurative and an abstract painter. Her figurative work is abstract; her abstract work can be figurative. She uses dramatic combinations of vibrant color and elegant line to create expressive abstract and figurative forms. The exceptional quality of her work intensifies its beauty. She has been critically described as “someone to watch” who “hits the mark with astonishing results and always with skill and sensitivity.” About her abstract paintings, Fleming says, “Color and line are vehicles for the expression of memory, imagination, and a lifetime of witness. Art in a time of crisis: It seems these days we are in a continual state of crisis. I paint with energy and empathy to escape the reality of our lives right now. We catch a moment, catch a lifetime in paint. It is my hope that the observer finds meaning in my art according to his or her own experience and thoughts.” Meet the artist during a reception on Sunday, March 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Village Center.
