Nick Glakas brings Florence in the Early Renaissance to the Village Center

Spend a glorious afternoon in 15th century Florence as we take an armchair tour of the city’s extraordinary sights on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m., at the Village Center.

With esteemed lecturer Nick Glakas as our guide, we’ll explore the Uffizi Gallery with Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus,” the Bargello Museum with Donatello’s most famous work, the bronze statue of David, the Piazza del Duomo to gaze upon Brunelleschi’s magnificent cathedral dome, and the Church of Santo Spirito to view Fra Lippo Lippi’s great alter piece, “Madonna and Child with Saints and Angels.”

Stroll into the Piazza Della Signoria, epicenter of the Florentine Republic, where the formidable Palazzo Vecchio is flanked by a unique outdoor sculpture garden where we will find Michelangelo’s statuesque David, Cellini’s famous bronze statue of Perseus, Giambologna’s flawless marble statue of the Rape of the Sabine Women, and the great Neptune Fountain.

Glakas is a former naval officer, international lawyer, corporate executive, college association president, and cruise ship lecturer.
