Sunday art workshop: Quilting design with fused fabric

Donna Radner and Sandra Smith, two artists from the May Fiber Friends Show, will lead a workshop on Sunday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In the workshop, students will create one or two quilt compositions, approximately 11″‘ x 14″ using fabrics adhered with Wonder Under, a fusible material that sticks when ironed. Radner and Smith will discuss techniques they use to design this way and show examples; this approach can be used to create geometric designs, landscapes, portraits, and more. Students should bring tablets or paper and pens for notes and a Sharpie to mark their fabrics. Supplies and instructions will be provided. No quilting or sewing experience, or machines, are required. The goal is to have fun with fabric. See more details in the Village News about the class and the artists. A minimum of six students is required; the class is limited to eight adult students. The cost is $55 for residents; $60 for nonresidents. The deadline to register is May 13 at 5 p.m. To register for the class, sign up by going to our website, www.friendshipheightsmd.gov, and click on Sign Up for Programs on the homepage.
