See the award-winning musical and visit Grounds for Sculpture

See the Tony-award-winning best musical Schmigadoon, overnight in Princeton’s Nassau Inn, visit Seward Johnson’s Grounds for Sculpture, and enjoy a luncheon at the famous Rat’s restaurant. Join us for this two-day extraordinary trip on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and Thursday, Nov. 12.

We’ll get an early start on our way to New York to see Schmigadoon, the magical town where every day is a musical. When one couple accidentally wanders in, they discover the only way to escape is by finding true love—which may or may not be with each other.

Before the show, enjoy a generous luncheon at the classic old-school Italian restaurant Tony DiNapoli’s. Then we’ll settle into our orchestra seats for the musical that critics describe as “pure Broadway joy!” We’ll share our hometown pride in seeing Maulik Pancholy, the son of Village resident Gita Pancholy, in his role as The Reverend.

Following the performance, we’ll take the short drive to Princeton, N.J., where we’ll call the charming Nassau Inn our home for the night.

After breakfast, we’ll take a guided tour of Grounds for Sculpture. Contained within the park are 42 acres of gardens with more than 300 sculptures by Seward Johnson (creator of the little girl and policeman statues in and around our Village park) and other artists.

Also on the property is Rat’s Restaurant, known for its incredible atmosphere and delicous country-style French cuisine. We’ll enjoy a three-course luncheon in one of the restaurant’s private dining spaces. Following lunch, you’ll have an opportunity to explore the gardens again before we depart for the return to Friendship Heights.

We’ll depart from the Village Center on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. and should return by 8 p.m. on Thursday.

The cost of the trip, which includes round-trip transportation, deluxe accommodations, an orchestra ticket, two lunches, one breakfast, GFS admission, and guided tour is $699 per person/ double occupancy for Village residents. Single supplement, due at sign up, is $120. A deposit of $400 is due at sign up and refundable until Sept. 7. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 7. Registration for residents and one guest begins immediately at the Village Center. Nonresidents pay $735 and may sign up beginning Sept. 5. The balance is due Oct. 7.

This trip requires walking several city blocks, and standing and walking for a minimum of an hour for the garden tour.
